The same kind of thing happened to me almost 7 years ago, but I was reading the signs. There was talk the organization I was apart of wasn't doing great, and I had a feeling they were going to close one of our hospitals. I knew if that happened that the entire company was going to have to start consolidating a bunch of departments. Sure enough, they closed a hospital, and I predicted my position would be eliminated and my employees would be moved within six months. I was off by three months; they moved earlier than I had anticipated. So, I was mentally prepared, but not totally financially prepared. Still, at least I had some kind of cushion for awhile.
