Building Teams Can’t Be Done Alone
Most of us are familiar with the cliché statement “There is no “I” in team!” This is true especially when team members only focus on the “I,” and see an opportunity to benefit only themselves and not the team as a whole. Their work goes from great to another word that has an “I” -MEDIOCRITY.
Think about sports such as soccer, football, volleyball, baseball, basketball, etc. It is physically impossible to play in these sports and win if you are the only one dedicated to the cause. But, if you combine several individuals with different strengths, talents, and experiences, you have a much greater chance of winning. Likewise, in the business world, you cannot do it on your own. You need people to counsel and collaborate with. You need other people’s strengths and talents. When you work together and unite with one goal in mind, you accomplish much more than if you were left to yourself.
Remember, teams must collaborate together to accomplish desired results. If each team member were to focus on the team as a whole, with no ulterior motives, they will be rewarded through other words with an “I” such as praise, accomplishment, and perhaps even a promotion. These are just a few of the rewards that come from true teamwork.
